Need Rebuilt Breakers Fast? Let Us Find It For You!

Rebuilt breakers have become increasingly popular for the same reason that more and more utilities are buying remanufactured transformers: Lead times for new ones can be as high as 4 years.

That’s why we regularly keep in touch with our close contacts among breaker remanufacturers. And why we’re often able to deliver rebuilt breakers within 12 weeks.

About Substation Circuit Breakers

Circuit breakers in electrical substations are critical protective devices used to automatically interrupt electrical current during faults or abnormal conditions, such as short circuits or overloads.

Main Functions of Circuit Breakers in Substations:

1. Fault Isolation

  • Disconnect faulty parts of the system to prevent damage and ensure the rest of the grid stays operational.
  • For example: If a transmission line has a fault, the breaker opens to isolate it.

2. System Protection

  • Work with relays to detect and interrupt overcurrent, earth faults, or abnormal voltages.

3. Load Switching

  • Can be used to turn circuits on or off during normal operations (e.g., maintenance or load transfer).

4. Equipment Protection

  • Protect expensive equipment like transformers, busbars, generators, and transmission lines by rapidly breaking current in case of a surge or fault.

5. Automation & Remote Control

  • Substation breakers are often automated and remotely controlled, allowing fast response via SCADA systems.

Common Types of Breakers Used in Substations:

TypeApplication / Voltage Range
SF₆ (Gas Insulated)High voltage; arc quenching via sulfur hexafluoride
Vacuum Circuit BreakersMedium voltage; arc quenching in a vacuum
Oil Circuit BreakersOlder technology; mainly phased out
Air Blast BreakersSome high-voltage or older installations

Why Breakers Are Essential:

Without them, faults would damage equipment, cause widespread blackouts, and pose serious safety hazards to personnel and infrastructure.
